Easter Memories

What to get an 8 month old for Easter?
As I thought about it, Easter memories from my childhood came to mind.

When I was young, every Easter Sunday we went to church then would head to my Grandma's house for huge family dinner; usually involving many cousins and a few aunts and uncles.  (Sometimes I had a basket, but I never wore red).  She made these "Bird's Nests" (uncooked Chow Mein Noodles, Marshmallows and Vanilla shaped like nests) and would fill them with chocolate eggs and marshmallow chicks.  They looked like a bird's nest; hence the name, and they were surprisingly delicious.  And there was always the Easter Egg hunt in the yard.

When I was about 7 or 8 years old, we spent Easter in Idaho with our extended family.  The town was small, and it held a community easter egg hunt every year.  I thought this was the most wonderfulest things in the world.  Then I found out that some of the eggs were worth money, and it became the most wonderfulestest thing.  Each age group had an area to search so that to older children weren't finding all the easy eggs.  We searched for what seemed like hours, from hither and yon, until my little legs were falling off.
I think I found $0.75.  My baby sister made over $2.00.  She was so lucky.  Think of all the candy she could buy.  Because you know the Easter Bunny never left enough.

Then came the Fruity Years.
As we got older, and my parent no longer had benefits to cover our dental work, they had a little chat with the Easter Bunny.  They must have had a great relationship with him because we started getting fruit in our baskets.  To make it more appealing, they would be fruits like starfruit or dragonfruit, but we knew the score.  In the bottom would be some chocolate and the big jelly bean eggs.  My sisters and I would play poker with the jelly bean eggs.

I know that there are many Easter traditions I want to share with Kiera.  Those shared traditions make me feel closer to my family, especially my sisters.  That is what I want to give Kiera.

I suddenly have the urge to go the Casino.

  3. Oh my god, I can't believe I kinda remember that, except for the collecting $2.00 in Idaho. Some sister must have scammed it from me. As cheesy as the fruit baskets were at first, I ended up really enjoying them, I probably wouldn't have tryed half of the fruits I did, if it weren't for those baskets.
